Dairy is a weight gain food! Babies consume dairy to grow rapidly! That’s it. Lactose is a very nutrient dense sugar (it’s like glucose, fructose, and all the other “ose’s” it’s a sugar. In addition, dairy contains fat and protein. When you combine all three, you get an anabolic effect. Anabolic doesn’t mean steroids, the word anabolic just means something grows. And in the case of babies, that’s great! You want babies to grow rapidly so they don’t stay in the vulnerable stage for very long!
However, consuming dairy as an adult, unless you have a metabolism that burns through everything (and there are people out there with such a metabolism), you will experience the same anabolic effect. Except, you won’t get taller! You get w-i-d-e-r! The hidden problem is that if you chose “fat free” or “low fat” you still get the same volume. A cup is a measurement of volume. So if you pour a cup of milk, but there is less fat, what took it’s place? Let me tell you: It’s sugar. Sugar is worse for weight gain than fat! That’s right. Sugar makes you fat! So, if you take out the fat, you are left with a higher percentage/content of sugar.
