This can be a very complicated question! Some people have larger bones and/or more muscle or may have “marbled” fat within their muscles. Because of this, most of us really don’t understand what weight we should be or how much weight we have to lose. Don’t rely on outdated height/weight charts from insurance companies – you can be 150 lbs. at 5 feet 5 inches tall, and be just the right weight – or you can be the same height, and weigh 165 lbs. and still be fit. Many factors come into play, and so to play it safe, work with your doctor to determine what weight is best for you. In my opinion, the best way to determine your body fat is called a DEXA Body Composition Scan. This is the easiest and most accurate way to do a composition test because it also gives your bone density and muscle density. I think these numbers will also give you a great indication of health. The other reason I believe this to be one of the best methods is that most of these systems are in doctor’s offices…therefore you might as well get yourself a full physical to see what’s going on in your body!
