Weight can definitely be a genetic tendency, so if others in your family have a weight problem, it can be from one of two things: the genetics which caused the body to retain excess fat or the behavioral tendencies of a family to eat fattening foods and to not exercise – or both. Either way, your family can contribute to your tendency to hold onto weight. The answer, of course, is for the whole family to be united in losing weight and getting fit – but if they’re just not ready, or you can’t muster their support – find a group that will – at school, through the community center, an after-school program, at church, in your neighborhood and more.
