Coffee is essentially a stimulant. For people with high blood pressure, this may be a source of problems. However, many people cannot get themselves started in the morning (and I am one of them) without their cup (or 3) of java. Some studies have shown that having coffee before a workout is actually beneficial. If you are currently a coffee drinker, ask your doctor if you can continue, or if you should merely cut down. If you don’t drink coffee, but rely on other caffeinated or energy drinks, you may be doing more harm than good, as some contain more caffeine. It also depends on what you take with your coffee – milk and sugar is definitely a source of weight gain. If you don’t drink coffee or caffeinated beverages of any type, don’t start. If you are an ectomorph, that latte may be beneficial on one hand, but could cause problems if you are predisposed to being hyper. Always check with your doctor first.
