If you start eating at 6-9 AM and your day starts somewhere around that time, you are doing precisely the correct thing for your body. However, if you are going to a fast food restaurant and having one of their marvelous breakfast muffins or burritos, you are doing absolutely the wrong thing, for your body and for your mood. You must start eating first thing in the morning, before you do anything. However, a correct meal for that time of day would be oatmeal with a banana, plus three to four egg whites, if you are a male, or two egg whites if you are a female. If you start eating from 9 AM till noon and you wake up at 6 AM to 9 AM, you are automatically shutting down your metabolism. You must eat to get your metabolism rolling. You are also putting your body at risk for low blood sugar if you get up at 6 am and don’t eat till 12 noon.

If you start eating at 12 noon to 3 PM and you get up at that time, that’s fine and a piece of chicken breast plus some baked potato and one cup of greens would be a perfect meal for that time of day, even if it’s your first meal. If you don’t eat until midnight or later, and you work all day, you are absolutely stressing out your entire biochemistry. You might also be in danger of being anorexic.

If you work a night shift, one that starts at 11 PM or 12 midnight, it is completely appropriate to start eating at 10PM or whenever you rise. Think of it this way: this is your breakfast, so eat a breakfast-type meal, and then eat every 2 hours until 10 am. Just because you work nights, doesn’t mean that you should eat much less – your metabolism could be thrown out of whack and you may end up gaining a great deal of weight.

If your first meal is after 3 pm and you get up at 6-9 am, you have the metabolism of a snake. Snakes often eat just once a week or less. In order to have a healthy beautiful body, you have to eat healthy, clean food the second you wake up.

How can food affect your mood? Scientists are proving that what’s in the foods you eat can effect the chemical composition of your brain, affecting your mood, including your level of alertness and your perception of pain. It is foods’ ability to alter the production or release of neurotransmitters, the chemical messengers that carry information from one nerve cell to another. Neurotransmitters are responsible for such important bits of information, like “I’m full” or, “AGG! I’m very anxious about this!”
