Lithium

This medication is used for bipolar disorder, as are many other psychotropic drugs. Do not undertake a weight loss plan if you are using lithium or another anti-psychotic drug, without your doctor’s orders. Lithium can, in particular, be lethal with the wrong combination of medications and weight loss plans; specifically a diuretic weight loss program. Lithium is similar molecularly to potassium. When you take diuretics or undertake a diuretic based weight loss plan, you lose potassium from their receptors. Because lithium is so similar, it will settle in to the receptors usually reserved for potassium and without intervention, you will achieve a lethal toxic level of lithium in your body.
