Gastric bypass surgery is a popular weight loss remedy today, especially for the morbidly obese – and doctors always tell these patients, don’t drink with your meals. Why? If you don’t drink, you will retain the food in your stomach longer, prolonging that feeling of “fullness.” When you drink sodas, juices, alcohol, and milk with your meal, you “wash away,” the food you just ate, to make room for even more food – that’s why people who drink copious amounts of liquids with their meals tend to be overweight. Drink 20 minutes before you meal, and 20 minutes after – but make sure it’s just water, tea, or coffee!
