You should always start your day with a meal, not a snack, especially if you are trying to lose weight. If you are eating a snack, such as chips, cookies, a doughnut, or spiced or flavored nuts, you are probably overweight. You may be eating much less than someone eating a whole meal, but the person eating the meal is consuming far less fat, far less sugar, and far, far less chemicals. If your meal consists of pancakes, waffles, eggs, or fried potatoes, you are doing just as much harm as you would from eating that sugary or salty snack – in fact, you’re just eating more of it, and you will gain weight. For breakfast, I may have oatmeal with berries, and egg whites and be perfectly full and content. Two hours later, I may have two oz. of turkey or chicken plus a carbohydrate such as: beans, rice, potatoes, or sweet potatoes.
Sometimes you don’t feel like eating that early. That’s ok. Start with some fruit or oatmeal. This will do just fine. Avoid putting milk or cream in your oatmeal if you do choose this option. Dairy is, as discussed earlier, a weight gain food due to a number of reasons.
