    Try to find a fairly level hike. Hiking is different than walking if you are on steep or uneven terrain. However, this is absolutely better than not doing any exercise. If you don’t have many flat surfaces then walk with a heart rate monitor and adjust your pace to match your fat burning target heart rate range. Here are the calculations:

    (220 – your age) X 65%

    For example: (220-60) X .65
    (160) X .65
    = 104

    If you maintain a heart rate of 104 +/- 5 beats per minute (no one can maintain a perfectly steady heart rate) you’ll be utilizing body fat as your primary fuel source!
